Tips to Improve Typing Speed
Use all 10 fingers
Learn touch typing using the home row position (ASDF JKL;). Each finger has assigned keys.
Don't look at the keyboard
Train yourself to type without looking down. Start slow and build muscle memory.
Focus on accuracy first
Speed follows accuracy. Practise slowly to reduce errors. SSC deducts marks for mistakes.
Practise daily for 20-30 mins
Consistent daily practice improves your WPM faster than occasional long sessions.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the typing speed required for SSC CHSL?
SSC CHSL LDC/JSA requires 35 WPM in English or 30 WPM in Hindi. The typing test is conducted for 10 minutes on a computer. Use the 10 min timer on this tool to simulate the actual exam.
What does KDPH mean?
KDPH stands for Key Depressions Per Hour — the total number of keystrokes (including spaces and punctuation) you make in one hour. SSC Data Entry Operator posts require 8000 KDPH. This is equivalent to roughly 26-27 WPM.
What is the difference between Gross WPM and Net WPM?
Gross WPM is the raw speed (total characters / 5 / minutes). Net WPM deducts an error penalty: Net WPM = Gross WPM − (errors / time in minutes). SSC exams use a similar formula, so always aim for high accuracy.
Can I practise typing in Hindi for SSC?
This tool currently supports English typing only. For Hindi (Kruti Dev or Mangal font) typing practice, we recommend using the official SSC/Railway typing test software.
